Podcast series focuses on animal welfare
January 18, 2023
Today, in collaboration with the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) is releasing the second episode of a new animal welfare podcast series entitled "Protecting Animal Welfare in Today's World: Building Unity through Understanding."
"What is One Welfare?" is hosted by the CVO's Associate Registrar of Quality Practice, Dr. Kim Lambert, with veterinarians Dr. Shane Bateman and Dr. Lee Neil, professors from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). 'One welfare' acknowledges the interconnectedness between people, animals, and the environment, by recognizing that one's well-being is impacted by that of others. This episode is available at https://cvo.org/Resources/Podcasts.aspx.
"As well as being a topic that matters deeply to the general public, animal welfare is central to the practice of veterinary medicine. Through this series of podcasts, the College, along with several partners, discuss the specifics of animal welfare that connect with the veterinary profession as we look at the One Welfare movement, current research, how to recognize abuse and the provincial animal welfare services. As well as being educational, the podcasts provide a foundation for ongoing conversations on this very important topic."
Jan Robinson, CVO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
The six episodes include guests from the Government of Ontario's Provincial Animal Welfare Services team, the OVC, and veterinarians, all sharing their experience and knowledge in conversation with the College. The remaining four episodes in this series will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.
CVO regulates the delivery of veterinary medicine in Ontario through the licensure of more than 5,300 veterinarians and the accreditation of over 2,300 veterinary facilities in the province. In serving the public interest, CVO seeks to understand the risks involved in veterinary medicine and collaborates with partners to develop solutions that reduce the potential for harm to animals and people.
