Partnership for improved access

In partnership for improved access

The College recognizes ensuring access to veterinary care is central to animal health and welfare in Ontario. An increase in demand for services, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a shift in working hours have contributed to challenges impacting access to veterinary services across North America.

The College and its partners continue to work in collaboration to improve the public’s access to veterinary care in Ontario now and into the future.

There are several areas of focus that support improved access to veterinary care:

  • Strengthening teamwork between veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
  • Promoting and educating veterinarians on offering clients with care options along a spectrum.
  • Continuing conversations with our partners and colleagues on the delivery of veterinary medicine for the future.
  • Considering programs to support newly-licensed veterinarians as they begin their practice.
  • Supporting a national competency assessment model for limited licensure that makes it easier for competent, internationally educated veterinarians to enter the workforce.

Benefits of Collaboration in Animal Physical Rehabilitation for Professionals

Shared care in physical rehabilitation of an animal is an example of professions coming together to offer services that increase function, mobility, and quality of life. Although these professions may have different skills and capabilities, their work is complementary.
