Transition Council Regulatory Concept Recommendations, submission to OMAFA
Overview
Regulations for facility accreditation under the Veterinarians Act were amended in 2022. These changes were a first step towards the modernization of the regulatory framework and these amendments were intended to carry over into regulations under the Veterinary Professionals Act.
The proposed regulatory concept on accreditation, approved by the Transition Council, includes the following:
- definition for the "holder of certificate of accreditation" to clarify the certificate is held by the facility director
- ability for the Registrar to allow a certificate of accreditation to continue with a new facility director, in situations where a facility director leaves the role
- clarity that a certificate of accreditation will expire if the accreditation fee is not paid
- compile and carry over existing regulatory language into one location in the new regulations
